Abigail King- Wethersfield (Track & Field): King had a personal-record in the shot put during a meet at Hartford Public on Jan. 8. The senior threw the put 25’11.5, finishing second to only Jaqueline Hamad of Hall 26’03. Sophomore Hailey Sousa also had a PR in the pole vault at the same meet as the Eagles performed well as a team.
Nikolas Giotsas- Cromwell (Ice Hockey): Giotsas had a career-high two assists as the Newington co-op ice hockey team defeated E.O. Smith/Tolland 3-1 on Jan. 8. The senior defenseman from Cromwell helped out on the offensive end as the team got goals from Tyler Leavitt, Mike Deegan, and Evan Howard. Julian Sicurella- Xavier (Ice Hockey): Sicurella scored three goals as Xavier defeated Immaculate 7-3 on Jan.5. The senior’s hat-trick helped the Falcons improve to 4-2 and earned their third win in conference play. Nick Guadarrama- Newington (Basketball): Guadarrama, a former Newington High School basketball player, scored 32 points as the University of New Hampshire defeated Albany on Jan. 8. The college senior hit 11 of 16 shots from the field, including five of six from beyond the arc. The 32 points was the second most points he’s scored in a college game, behind the 34 he netted against UMBC a season ago. Jayden Osei-Tutu- Rocky Hill (Basketball): Osei-Tutu scored 23 points and grabbed 12 rebounds against Hartford Public on Jan. 3. The senior was efficient, shooting 67% from the field, and showcased an ability to get to the bucket and shoot from the outside, along with bringing the ball up court.
